Stay away from "Farmville"

My wife downloaded this browser based game, and it's nothing but trouble.

She first downloaded a toolbar that came up with 3 second pop ups. And when I deleted it, it literally crashed my compy, and I had to do a restore from earlier time. I got lucky that time.

But this latest one added a plugin that caused my 'puter to come up with new windows, and just "vibrate". So when I tried to turn off my computer and re-boot,
It came up with a message saying "Boot MGR 386.EXE cannot be found", and I had to do a hard re-install to original factory settings, and lose everything we had last night on our hard drive.

Just a word to the wise, Stay away from "Farmville" on Facebook. It does indeed have viruses imbedded on it. my wife told me that several people on her friendslist told her that their Compy's were infected by this game, and hurt their compy's.

My sister,mother,brother,nephews and cousins all had thier comps crash cause of farmville.glad i didnt get involved in that crap.Much rather play games here.

i play farmville everyday but smart enough to know never to download anything from the web. even when i play world of warcraft downloading from blizzard is a risk. so if someone is playing a game online..they should be reminded never to download anything.

I play this game often but never download anything it's web based so I just play that way. I'm also quite cautious about what I download and scan my puter often.

Becareful with what you download on the Net my friend. Farmville isn't bad actually. I don't play the damn thing that much, But you'll be fine if you use it on Facebook though I know you have no interest in it at all. Heck, I'm neighbors with Kim, And Buffy lol.

After research, I found out it isn't the actual game per se, but the 'lil videos and plugins that run on the side of the screen that are the problem, with having viral code written on them when they download into your browser. Nice huh..? You delete them once you find them, and they frag your registry, kinds like the blaster worm, that took me over a week to remove, by going thru EVERY line of code in my entire registry and removing the bad code.

It wasn't that malicious, just everytime you hit your home page, it kept redirecting you to porn sites, by code that was imbedded in your registry, so no form of anti virus could remove it. These Farmville bugs were waaay worse. Both times I deleted them, they crashed my compy instantly, right on the spot. I've learned my lesson. From now on I'm backing up EVERYTHING.

The biggest problem was the toolbar download. Those never end well. Also if you are using IE go to
Tools -> Internet Options

Once you do that a window should pop up. In that window there should be a tab for Connections or Internet options.

Click on the tab and look for LAN Settings and click on it.

Once you do that another window will pop up. Look to see if the Proxy Server is checked. If so, uncheck it and delete the info in it.

Also download HijackThis and run it. Look it over and see if anything looks odd to you.

Those steps are much easier then going though the Reg.
