    TV or Projector?

    Hoping to pick your brains a bit...

    So I'm at a crossroads for getting either a smart TV or a Projector. At the moment I'm leaning more to the projector, as the bills for having a paid TV service are gonna be about €65 euros a month (high!). Partly because of a tax that's €160 per year...

    So with a projector I don't have to pay that tax and I'm thinking of just using a VPN service to use the american Netflix.

    As for projectors, I'm at a loss. I have no clue about the pros and cons for gaming and other problems I don't know of yet... So what do you guys think? Any DSA using one? Is it any good for gaming? Should I just bite the bullet and just pay for a TV package and all that tax.

      I can say that a smart TV is definitely worth it, but it depends on your financial situation as you said. I don't know much about projectors. However, I heard there's new projectors coming out that have very good quality and are probably worth looking into.

          I agree with Boss on the smart TV. I've not seen or heard of anyone using a projector for gaming but this does not mean it cannot be done. I did do some research for you though and found out that there are projectors that will do the job for you. However, they are very expensive.               Projectors can be used for gaming. You won't get quite the quality of picture as a regular tv but you can project a huge image and basically play on a movie screen. Here's the downside, projectors use a bulb that has a life that is measured in hours. basically the more you use it the shorter amount of time ( years ) it will last before you have to replace the bulb. Some projector bulbs don't cost much, some are pretty expensive. I usually tell people that ask if you're planning on just using it every once in a while for movies or gaming it's great but it you plan to use it for your primary video source then I would go a different route to avoid the upkeep cost of replacing the bulb.

                  Kerry has a point projectors will cost you more in the end with upkeep.

                  There is another point you should look at also and one that I have been fighting over. Smart TV vs High quality tv with a home theater pc. I have yet to find a Smart TV that has the apps I want, upgradeability I need, and at a nice price.

                  I might just end up getting a high guilty dumb tv and make a HTPC or get a http://www.roku.com/

                      Wasn't considering the cost of the bulb. I'll have to look into the pricing for replacement bulbs. If it's more than that tax for the Tv, then that could be a deal breaker.

                      That and the actual cost of those projectors considered good for gaming... Much more than u thought. Good comparison to the cheaper ones I was looking at.

                      Thanks for the advice guys! Think that projector needs more of a critical eye from me...
