    Gamers and Fitness

So I'm curious to know if anyone here does any type of weight training, physical fitness or play sports. If so what do you do to maintain your health. I for one hit the gym for what I call "training" I constantly train for a better body. I"m not one with the best metabolism so hitting the gym helps to maintain my weight and strength. I normally go 5 times a week and train a different body part per day. I've been doing this steady for 3 years now. The last 8 months have been rough for me with injuries, not related to what I was doing in the gym, but I couldn't wait to go back full time. I'm also looking for ways to eat better. Nutrition is probably harder for me than hitting the gym. I have one hell of a sweet tooth and this doesn't help when trying to make some muscle gains. Share you thoughts.

I workout at home with my own equipment but I constantly change my routine to avoid getting too comfortable. I got done with a 10 week program recently, so I'm changing it up with a more challenging setup. Fitness is very good for one's health, so I always try to maintain my physical activity. I prefer compound exercises because I like knowing that I'm getting the most out of my routine.

I don't do it as often as I should anymore but when I do I stick with the tried and true FM 21-20. Google fm 21-20 and you should be able to find some easy stuff you can do in your living room or back yard w/o having to buy any equipment.

My mentality is not sacrificing what I like to eat, but also having some self control with what I like to eat. So usually most of the time that stuff I love is reserved for weekends(lets it be Chinese food, Subway, or Taco Bell). Throughout the week(And weekend), I go to the gym about three to two times a week running the threadmill and working my abs, because in all honesty that is the only thing that is giving me trouble. My arms and legs are building up fine so i've put strength training alittle on hiatus to toughen my abs.

It hasn't been easy though, I keep fighting, But I still need to eat less of the junk I tend to eat.

I also listen to my favorite songs to get my blood boiling; It gives me energy when I'm running so that is a plus.

Anybody have some ab training tips?

I used to go to my school weight room almost every day but my school is now closed so i cant do that anymore. a couple of days ago I got a hold of the insanity videos and i'm starting to do that for now. i would much rather lift weights then do cardio tho.

I'll spend about 4-5 days in the gym. Mostly strength training, followed by about 20-25 minutes of cardio in one form or another. I used to incorporate martial arts 2x a week as well until my Sensei sopped teaching. My diet isnt always the best, but i do try and make up for that in other ways.

                I lift weights.

                40oz's at a time. ;)

It's hard work, but I force myself to do it.

I rarely if ever do weight training...I enjoy road biking, swimming and running so that's why I do triathlons. My biggest issue is that I am either hot or cold when it comes to fitness. I'll fatten up over winter and then get in shape over the summer to only repeat that process. Completely irrational process...maybe I'll break that cycle this year!!!

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. I have some equipment for weight training at home. Use that maybe 2 to 3 times a week. I don't drive, so I bike a lot, so that's my cardio.. Was never really bothered about staying in shape until I had a kid. The need to be strong enough to carry him is getting greater all the time and I don't want to permanently injure myself picking him up. That, and the fact that there was just too much noticeable movement around the belly area when walking down a flight of stairs.

The best side effect of it all was a significant increase in stamina and staying power which makes other fun things a lot more fun, if you catch my drift ;-) :-P

The abs are hard because you would have to bring down your body fat percentage. This is a tough area for me as well. Mixing up your routine helps, but your diet is really the biggest thing. I use this application call JeFit Pro. There is a free one out there as well. I track my strength training for each exercise I do even treadmill, stairmaster and elliptical trainer. Also abs do not need a lot of working out. It's a bunch of muscles that will get huge if you overwork them. This would give you that big muscular protruding belly look you may see some bodybuilders have. Check out the app or go online(www.jefit.com) there are tons of ab workouts you can do, most don't require any machines.

I actually though I would hear crickets when I posted this, so I'm glad to see that a good portion do care about their health or at least think about it.

haa haa ... yeah. I go to the gym but for home I just have an incline bench and a treadmill. It's amazing the amount of exercise you can do with just a bench. The one body part I do having issues finding enough exercises for is my back. There are only so many row type exercises that I can do at home. I have tons of different machines at the gym with enough weight. Targeting the lats and traps can be difficult if you overdo it with too much weight though.

Gotcha, Someone once told me that a workout of the entire body, and not just one part. I'm glad I don't do super intense ab works outs otherwise i'd be protruding a whole lot more.

Thanks for the website, i'll keep that saved on my phone as well when I need a particular routine to do.

@Mui: Those exercises that focus on more than one group of muscles are compound exercises and I second that they are more effective than isolation exercises (only working certain muscles) if you're going for mass or strength. But there's nothing wrong with doing both.
