Difficult Games that Newbies Must Beat

So last night DarthMikey and I got into a conversation in my apartment. We were discussing difficult games from throughout each generation and how today its so easy for kids to beat a game with online help and guides. So we started thinking what are some games from NES to PS2 that any new gamer or even your own kids should beat before you give them a new system. We tried to cover every genre there is too just to get all the bases.

NES- Super Mario Bros- its a classic and yes it should be done (Mikey wanted to say Final Fantasy but he was like hell I couldn't get out of the first town without getting killed) personally I would throw in TMNT bc its impossible but overall felt Mario was kind of the go to game

SNES- Super Street Fighter- on hard- if you can beat it then you have beat one of the toughest fighting games there is

N64- Ocarina-sure there may be other harder games but its the greatest game of all time

Sega- Sonic- really could not think of anything super hard on Sega, so if you guys know something throw it out

PS1- Resident Evil- it was hard, it was scary, and it made you play smart

    PS2- ??? Never decided here

PC- Doom/Wolfenstein- Sure Wolfenstein was the first FPS but both would suit for teaching FPS history

So Mikey and I thought we would ask you guys what games you believe you would tell someone they must beat before they can get a new console or just to teach game history to.

Since you listed games for previous consoles, I would say the toughest game to beat this generation is Demon's Souls on the PS3. That game is insanely difficult, but very satisfying to beat so I highly recommend people to give the game a try and not feel like breaking their controller. Don't get me started on new game +...

NES: The Original Metal Gear, without using any guides.

        Rygar was pretty tough too.

        Castlevania (1 and 2)

And for those you hate, or when your kids are bad, make them play Hylide. This game was broke and you couldn't get any further then 30mins into the game.

SEGA: Altered Beast or Golden Axe

@Ratix, You could also make them play the NES version of Star wars. Let them spend hours figuring out where the hell to go! lol

            NES - Ninja Gaiden

            SNES - Actraiser 2

            Genesis - Shadow Dancer

            Gameboy - Metroid 2

            Gamegear- Shinobi

N64 - Goldeneye 007(on the highest difficulty setting)

            Playstation - Final Fantasy Tactics

            Sega Saturn - Guardian Heroes

Gameboy Advance - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon

Dreamcast - Resident Evil: Code Veronica

            PS2 - Onimusha

            Gamecube - Ikaruga

            Nintendo DS - Undecided

PSP - Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles

            PC - Half- Life

            PS3 - Demon Souls

360 - Call of Duty 4 on Veteran is purely evil (in my experience at least).

Thats one of the hardest games I've ever beaten. It's a miracle that I lived through all that grenade spam to tell the tale.

Any of the older Final Fantasys on the NES and SNES.
I couldn't even play them as a kid. I had no idea what the hell kind of game it was.

You made me decide now, I think I would say Call of Duty 4 on Veteran on the last mission during the corridor and during the extra mission "Mile High club". The moment the enemy sees you they are already shooting you insanely. Since the your partners only move up once you kill the waves or if you move up yourself it made things difficult.

WaW....I can imagine CoD games are notorious for evil single player difficulties on Veteran. I give it credit for that bit.

That game is my El Guapo. I've never beaten it. I've gotten far back in the day, but always got side tracked with other games and partying. I've gone back a few times with emulators to try and give it another go, but I never stick with it long enough to beat. I will beat it one day.. one day..

Ninja Gaiden is another good call there mui.

NES: Iraki Warriors - not for difficulty as much as the attrition factor. How many times can you press A B B A

This is true. Warhawk had the steepest learning curve of any online game.

this game on veteran was the most annoying thing to play. i would get blown up every fucking second, that and the fucking perfect aiming enemy soldiers. i think i spent more time crawling through the ground trying not to get fuck up then anything else.

i think most of the mario games before the ones made for the DS were fairly difficult especially super mario bros 2 that game was a complete mind fuck to me.

Killzone 2 on ps3. The fight with general radec at the end was one of the hardest in history for me. On hard, its rediculous. Damn near impossible.
