Tonight, just now, my 360 has received the "Ring of Death". I am preparing to send it back as soon as I finish this post up. Needless to say I am pretty angry, but the fact that I had a feeling this was going to happen sooner or later sort of takes away the bite. Anyways, I will see you all on the 360 in around two weeks from now, just in time for the second round of the GRAW2 tourney.

Yeah... I had always thought the Ring of Death meant it was... death. But apparently I can get on now. I just wanted to take my Gears CD out so I could check the serial number, but apparently it loaded and read the CD. OK, ignore this! My new one did the same thing over the weekend. I was shuffling my 360's around, the modded one and the new one, and I think the video cable came loose a bit.
If the video cable is loose or not plugged in you will get the ring of death. I wouldn't be surprised if a few ppl had this same problem and hastily shipped off their 360s to be repaired.
If you get a ring of death, Double check all connections, try to eject the drive and cycle power a few times. The Rings might not be permanent."POWER!!! UNLIMITED POOWWWEEEER!!!!!!

The thing that made me think it was really bad was tonight I was having trouble with NCAA Football 08. The game froze on me a couple of times and there was nothing wrong with the disk. After I was frustrated enough with that game, I went to put in Gears tonight and I had red lights. ha, false alarm for now i guess then. i think most folks with a pro 360 expect it to happen at some point, but with the 3yr warranty, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal now.Frodo failed, Bush has the ring!Comment

Odd I've never had the ring buy my system freezes up all the time and only on rb6 but today on Guitar Hero It cut out all audio and Video at once and there was nothing wrong with my conncections. Does the ring ever not show up if somethings wrong?One shot, One kill.Comment

The ring is intended to indicate hardware failures--not just death. But if your game is freezing all the time, then it might be worth calling MSFT about. I get freezes sometimes, but that is usually due to a sudden loss of connection in my internet or high packet loss.You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

If you cant fix it, try the towel trick, wrap your 360 in a towel covering all of it and let it sit, on for a few hours, and the majority of the time no more ring of death, thats prob what microscrooge does.Formerly played with <?>, {SOR}, {LOE}, -MERC-, and {JSA}. Now a member of {SoF}.

Interesting... in that video, the Red Ring was flashing. Mine last night was solid, and I kept it on for about a half minute and it never flashed. Odd..."You gotta have fun. flashing and solid mean different things. I read that somewhere.
The problem with the towel trick is that it sometimes doesn't work, and it doesn't take much to break again. The towel trick purposefully overheats the solder so that it melts and reforms the bond with the board. then it hardens during the 25 min wait time. It doesn't take a genius to see that it shouldn't take much to cause that rebond to break again. New chips are being developed. In the meantime, use the warranty.You're the best! Around! I strongly discourage anyone from using the towel trick. It's like pouring gasoline on the fire. The systems have enough problems of overheating as it is. . it resolders the chip and sends a refurbed machine to you. Why would anybody do a home remedy when there is a THREE year warranty at your disposal?
