    Ps3 not playing dvds

Anybody else having this problem all of a sudden? My 60 gig is fine but the 40 my aunt bought me wont play dvds anymore. It will show up in the xmb but when I click it the screen just goes black. Not sure how the region thing works but its from Indian and now I'm just in Ohio so I can't believe that would be the problem.

    Anybody got any ideas?

It can't be region locked because there isn't a PS3 that is, hence how I am able to play my imported copy of Armored Core. It could be the DVD itself (unless you've tried different DVDs) but I can't say for sure what the problem could be.

I've tried blu rays, regular dvds, and a pirated dvd. All came with black screen. Not sure if one of the updates did it or not but it really sucks.

He says his 60G PS3 doesn't have the problem so it can't be 2.41.

It could be if something about the 60 gig led to it. Or it could just be a faulty DVD laser.

yeah there might be dust or something on the laser or something. If it's past warrenty then feel free to open it up and clean it off with an air can.

I don't think its that because I forgot to mention that the screen will go black and then the ps3 will freeze and I have to manually shut it off from the back.

hmmm... I was running into that problem quite a lot with my last playstation (the one that died of YLOD). When I tried to switch out the HDD (YLOD means that the HDD has died) I found that there was a lot of dust build up on the HDD itself as well as the place where it actually connects with the playstation.

Dust is deadly and if your warrenty is up, you really should crack it open and vaccum it out plus air can it.

P.S. Don't use the air can on it if you are not going to open it up. That will just blow the dust further into the playstation.

I went to system settings and restored the ps3 and that fixed the problem. Took about 3 hours but if anybody runs into this problem this is the fix.
